A 28-year-old woman has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after being caught with nearly half a kilogram of cannabis at a home in Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire.
Pearl Naidoo, of no fixed address, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on 17 September. She pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis following a police raid on a property in Shaw Close on 18 August.
During the search, officers recovered the cannabis, which carried an estimated street value of £4,960, alongside mobile phones and drug paraphernalia.
Detective Constable Steven Day of Cambridgeshire Police stated: "Drug dealing has a harmful impact on our communities and is often linked to wider criminality and exploitation."
While police continue to prioritise the disruption of illicit supply chains, the ongoing reliance on criminalisation for cannabis possession and supply remains a point of contention for reform advocates. Critics of current enforcement strategies argue that a regulated, legal market would remove the profit motive for criminal gangs, reduce the burden on the court system, and ensure safer product standards for consumers.
Cambridgeshire Police have encouraged members of the public to report suspected drug activity to assist in their ongoing enforcement operations.
