Industrial-scale grow discovered in Wincham
Cheshire Police have shut down a large-scale cannabis cultivation site following a tip-off from the public. Officers executed a raid on an industrial building on Pickmere Lane, Wincham, on Wednesday, September 9, uncovering a sophisticated operation containing approximately 650 plants.
Police described the setup as 'professional', noting the presence of advanced irrigation systems, high-intensity heat lighting, and ventilation equipment. Authorities also confirmed that the electricity supply at the site had been tampered with to bypass standard metering. The estimated street value of the crop, had it reached maturity, is valued at up to £220,000.
Ongoing investigation
Sgt Rogan Ogden of the Northwich Local Policing Unit praised the role of community intelligence in the operation. "This is another great result which demonstrates the value of intelligence from the public," he stated. "As a result of the information provided, we’ve removed a significant quantity of cannabis from the streets of Northwich and the wider area."
While the raid successfully removed the plants from circulation, no arrests have been made at this stage. Police enquiries into the operation remain ongoing.

Cheshire Police have reiterated the signs that may indicate a property is being used for illicit cultivation, including:
* A strong, sickly-sweet odour. * Constant whirring sounds from ventilation systems. * Windows that are consistently blacked out or covered with foil. * High levels of heat or condensation on windows. * Unusual patterns of foot traffic at all hours.
