Sophisticated Operation Uncovered

Two Albanian nationals have been remanded to prison following the discovery of a large-scale cannabis farm in Great Yarmouth. Emirjon Dahija, 36, and Egli Hallidri, 26, were arrested after police attempted to stop a vehicle on School Road on September 29.

Following the arrest, officers analysed a seized mobile phone which contained an app linked to CCTV cameras monitoring the property. A subsequent raid of the premises revealed a sophisticated growing operation spanning six separate rooms.

Legal Proceedings

At Norwich Magistrates’ Court, Hallidri pleaded guilty to the production of a class B drug, while Dahija entered a not-guilty plea. Both men admitted to entering the UK illegally. The court heard that the pair face a significant custodial sentence, with the prosecution noting a starting point of four years for such offences.

Both defendants have been remanded in custody until their next appearance at Norwich Crown Court on October 26.

The Case for Reform

Incidents like this highlight the ongoing challenges of the UK's prohibitionist approach to cannabis. While law enforcement focuses on dismantling illicit grows, reform advocates argue that the lack of a regulated, legal market continues to fuel criminal exploitation and creates a vacuum filled by organised crime groups. A shift toward a legalised framework could potentially redirect resources toward public health and harm reduction, while undermining the business model of those currently operating in the shadows.
