A 37-year-old man from Golders Green, London, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being apprehended with 4.54kg of cannabis in Carmarthen.
The Arrest
On August 3, officers from Dyfed-Powys Police intercepted Florin Kasmi in a car park on Little Water Street. Acting on intelligence regarding a white MG vehicle used to transport illicit substances from England into Wales, police conducted a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered four vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis, estimated to have a street value of approximately £40,000, alongside over £12,700 in cash hidden in the glove box.
Legal Outcome
Kasmi pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class B drugs and possession of criminal property at Llanelli Magistrates Court. He was sentenced on August 18.
DC Tom Morgan of the force’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit stated: “The distribution of cannabis often relies on serious levels of exploitation at different stages in the supply chain.”
While police continue to focus on enforcement to disrupt supply networks, the incident highlights the ongoing demand for cannabis in regional areas. Reform advocates argue that such cases underscore the necessity of a regulated, legal market, which could undermine the illicit supply chains that police are currently tasked with dismantling, while simultaneously redirecting resources toward public health and harm reduction rather than solely relying on the criminal justice system.
