Targeted Operation Leads to Arrest
A 44-year-old man was arrested at Liverpool Airport on Saturday, 25 July, following a coordinated operation involving the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU), UK Border Force, and Merseyside Police.
Officers apprehended the suspect in connection with a previous investigation in Newcastle, which resulted in the seizure of over 30 kilos of cannabis. During the arrest at the airport, police discovered an additional 20 kilos of cannabis in the suspect's possession.
Multi-Agency Enforcement
The arrest was conducted under Operation Sentinel, a regional initiative aimed at dismantling criminal groups involved in the illegal drug trade. The suspect has since been bailed as investigations continue.
Sergeant Neil Lovat of NEROCU’s Disruption Team stated: "This has been an excellent display of what can be achieved when partner agencies work together to take action against illegal drug operations."
"We will continue to work with our partners, under Operation Sentinel, to dismantle the criminal groups who try to profit from the sale and supply of illegal drugs and inflicting harm to communities."
