A Mysterious Collapse
Staff at WildLives Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre have reported an unusual case involving a fox, named 'Kite', who was brought to Ryder Davies Vets in Felixstowe in a near-comatose state. Despite the animal's critical condition, no physical injuries were found, and the fox was in otherwise excellent health.
Clinical Suspicion of Cannabis
Veterinary staff noted that while the fox was hypothermic and tachycardic, his vital signs did not suggest typical trauma or disease. Lead vet Kathryn suspected cannabis intoxication based on the clinical presentation. While the exact source of the exposure remains unknown, the symptoms aligned with accidental ingestion of the substance.
Recovery and Release
Kite received supportive treatment, including fluids, to help his system process the toxins. By the following morning, the fox had made a significant recovery, regaining his appetite and alertness. After a period of observation to ensure no lasting effects, he was deemed 'feisty' and healthy enough to be released back into the wild.
This incident highlights the potential risks posed to local wildlife by improperly discarded substances. The rescue centre continues to provide emergency care for local wildlife and accepts donations via their official portal.
