A 28-year-old man from Glasgow is facing a potential custodial sentence after being caught attempting to import over £131,000 worth of cannabis through Glasgow Airport.
The Incident
Ayub Dahir was stopped by UK Border Force officers on April 30, 2025, while passing through the green 'nothing to declare' channel at international arrivals. According to reports from Paisley Sheriff Court, an X-ray scan of his two suitcases and a rucksack revealed 62 heat-sealed bags containing herbal cannabis.
Key Facts: * Total weight: 34.5kg of herbal cannabis. * Estimated street value: £131,100. * Charges: Dahir pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.
Legal Proceedings
Following the discovery, Dahir was arrested and subsequently charged with importing drugs into the UK. A co-accused, Sarah Blackwood, had her not guilty plea accepted by the Crown.
Sheriff Bruce Erroch KC has adjourned the case to allow for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment. Dahir is scheduled to return to court for sentencing next month.
Cases like this continue to highlight the ongoing focus of UK enforcement on international drug importation. While the black market for cannabis remains a primary target for border authorities, the incident underscores the persistent demand for the substance in the UK, a factor often cited by reform advocates as a reason to transition toward a regulated, legalised market that could undermine criminal supply chains and ensure product safety.
