Police Operation in Rochester

A 25-year-old man from Chatham has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs following a proactive police operation in Rochester.

Officers from Kent Police initiated the stop on Friday 23 October 2026 after spotting a blue Kia Cee’d on New Road. Following a pursuit, the vehicle was stopped on Maidstone Road. A search of the car revealed a large quantity of cash and several deal bags containing cannabis.

Seizures and Investigation

Further searches of a nearby property and the driver resulted in the recovery of additional cannabis and suspected cocaine. While the force has not disclosed the total weight or value of the items seized, the incident highlights the ongoing enforcement focus on street-level drug supply.

The suspect, a Greek national, has been released on police bail while enquiries continue. No charges have been announced at this time.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the continued criminalisation of cannabis in the UK. Reform advocates frequently argue that the current prohibition model fuels illicit market activity and diverts police resources away from more serious violent crime, suggesting that a regulated, legal market could better manage supply and reduce the harms associated with the black market.
