Legal Proceedings in Inverness
A 43-year-old mother-of-three has appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to the possession of cannabis with intent to supply. Candice Sutherland was apprehended following a police raid on a property in Bridge View Drive on November 15 of last year.
The Seizure
During the execution of a search warrant, officers recovered 982g of cannabis alongside £320 in cash, scales, and three mobile phones. The seized cannabis has been valued at an estimated street price of more than £14,500.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank has deferred the sentencing until November 19 to allow for the completion of a criminal justice social work report.
Cases such as this continue to highlight the ongoing enforcement of current drug legislation in Scotland. Advocates for reform frequently point to the high costs of policing and the criminalisation of individuals as evidence that the current prohibitionist approach requires a shift toward a regulated, harm-reduction-focused market.
