Enforcement Action on the M6

A 31-year-old man has been charged with drug offences following a significant seizure of cannabis by Cheshire Constabulary. Officers stopped a yellow Transit van on the M6 southbound at approximately 1:45pm on Tuesday, October 20, where they discovered four kilograms of cannabis in the front of the vehicle.

Following the initial stop, a subsequent search of an address in London led to the recovery of a further 80 kilograms of cannabis and approximately 100 grams of cocaine.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Joseph Woods, 31, of Cranberry Close, Northolt, has been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B controlled substances. The investigation is being led by Merseyside Police’s Project Medusa.

Woods has been remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 22.

While police continue to focus on the disruption of illicit supply chains, the scale of this seizure highlights the ongoing demand for cannabis in the UK. Reform advocates argue that such large-scale criminal operations are a direct consequence of the continued prohibition of cannabis, suggesting that a regulated market would undermine the illicit trade and ensure product safety for consumers.
