Two men have pleaded guilty to producing cannabis following a police raid on an industrial unit in Northallerton. Aldo Gjeta, 27, and Emanuel Bushi, 28, both of no fixed address, entered their pleas at York Crown Court.

The Raid and Charges

The arrests took place in September when North Yorkshire Police discovered a large-scale cannabis cultivation facility at the Standard Way Industrial Estate. Officers estimated the site contained enough plants to yield a street value of £1 million.

While this case highlights the ongoing enforcement focus on illicit production, it underscores the persistent scale of the black market in the UK. Reform advocates frequently point to such high-value seizures as evidence that current prohibition policies fail to deter large-scale criminal operations, arguing that a regulated, legal market would instead generate tax revenue and undermine the illicit trade.

Sentencing Ahead

Both men remain in custody and are scheduled to be sentenced on November 27.
